Dr. Ioannis Sibetheros is Professor of Hydraulic Engineering at the Civil Engineering Dept, University of West Attica and former Head of the Civil, Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering Department at the Technological and Educational Institute (TEI) of Athens. He is also Director of the Master’s Program “Integrated Design of Hydraulic and Geotechnical Structures”, and the Research Laboratory of Applied Mechanics. He holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) with several distinctions, an MSc (as a Fulbright scholar) and a PhD, both in Civil Engineering, from the University of Texas at Austin. He has worked as a research fellow and research scientist at the Offshore Technology Research Center (OTRC), an engineering research center sponsored by the National Science Foundation and a joint effort of Texas A&M University (TAMU) and the University of Texas at Austin, and as a visiting assistant professor at the Civil Engineering Department of TAMU. He has also worked as an invited research scientist at the Civil Engineering Department of NTUA, through a Career Award funded by the European Union Secretariat for Research and Development & Greek General Secretariat for Research and Technology, and as a Texas Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) associate research scientist at the Civil Engineering Dept., TAMU, College Station. He has also served as the first Special Secretary for Water Affairs at the Hellenic Ministry for the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works. His research interests include experimental and computational fluid mechanics and hydraulics, fluid (wave)-structure interactions in the ocean environment, and water resources engineering. In 2020, he and two other researchers from the University of Patras were awarded the Water Research Prize at the World Architecture Festival Virtual 2020. On October 31st 2022 he was appointed as Vice-President of Academic Affairs and Student Welfare Services at the Hellenic Open University.
